…Listen to Him!

If you want to know what happened, ask an eye-witness.

Three of Jesus’ disciples were eye-witnesses of a spectacular event when they saw Him ‘transfigured’ up on a mountain. They saw a glimpse of the Lord in all His majesty – radiant and shining like the sun. They also heard the voice of God saying: This is my Son, whom I love…listen to Him!

The gospel message of Jesus Christ is not a man-made story. The Bible is not just a book. The disciples have given us their eye-witness account of life with Jesus, as guided by the Holy Spirit. We are children of the living, true God who brought salvation to us through His Son, Jesus Christ.

How does Faith show itself

Some people have a reputation for “telling it like it is”. They speak their mind and you are left in no doubt as to what they think. This can be confronting or it can be quite refreshing. James, the brother of Jesus, seems to be one of those people.

In todays’ reading he says: whoever keeps the whole law, yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it (James 2:10).  That would include every human being! We all need God’s forgiveness, no matter how good we may think we are, so instead of looking at the faults of others, we ought to spend more time thanking and praising God for His grace towards us. Then we will be able to love one another, as He commands.

We were Eye Witnesses

1 Peter 1: 16-21

One day Jesus took Peter, James, and John up onto a high mountain where something extraordinary happened. The Lord’s clothes became dazzling white and His face shone like the sun, and there stood Moses and Elijah talking with Him!

The Bible calls this the “transfiguration” of Jesus because He was being shown as the true Son of God, in all His glory, the promised Messiah. In a sense Jesus was being validated by the Father. This was important because He was about to take the sin of the world to the cross and that would have been an almost intolerable burden to carry. So with the heavenly host we can shout: Worthy is the Lamb, the Son of God who gave Himself for us!

Jesus, The Life Changer

Luke 19: 1-10

Jesus was on His way through Jericho when He met a wealthy tax collector called Zacchaeus. Tax collectors usually became wealthy by overcharging and cheating so Zacchaeus was probably no different, but Jesus changed all that. Even though the people grumbled about it, Jesus stayed at Zacchaeus’ home and turned his life around from being a cheat to giving back what he had gained dishonestly. We could say He gave Zacchaeus his life back.

Jesus is the “life changer”. He brought salvation to Zacchaeus and He offers salvation to all people. The more we meet with Jesus, the more He will have a positive effect on us. He even said: I have come so that you may have life, and live it to the full. That is why He came into this world, and it is His offer to you today.
